A real dystopia

By Ella Hughes

Age – 12 – 13 years old

I live in a world

The problem is it’s real
A dehumanised state
I cannot be late
Before the bombs start dropping.

The problem is it’s real
Trapped in a cage
No means of escape
The only hope is courage

The problem is it’s real,
At the age of six
I seem eighteen
I am numb and senseless

The problem is it’s real
Short and young
Old and strong
A child swapped for a soldier
And death shall come

There is no problem while there is hope
A change for the better must come
And I will still be me
And everyone can see
A dream is for the better
