I Am A Child by Abla Jaber

I am a child

My doll was stained with blood

My eyes were screaming from the destruction

And my notebook was filled with ashes

This is our state; we are tortured, persecuted and killed.

I am a child and I dream

Of peace and love and abundance

I dream of playing in the garden

And not be betrayed by a black raven

I am a child and I dream

I am a touch of love, a jasmine, a poet of adoration

I am a caring soul born amidst the destruction and dreams of freedom

That is me, a child, and I dream
