Ocean House

by Lydia Kozloski

I was a house on the shore of the ocean
watching the fish spin and twirl beneath me,
feeling the barnacles griping my poles with all their might.

You will never feel what it is like
to have your palm hopes smashed
with a wrecking ball.

I was a house on the shore of the ocean,
But I am a house in the city where humans destroy the world.
